as a long time breeder, you do not use soft food. You can put a small amount of milk to soften puppy food then wean off to solid. Solid is needed to strengthen their teeth and gums. This is a mistake far too many make when thinking they are responsible for weaning. Puppies will on their own eat what ever the dam eats. Leave a bowl down for the dam to eat her food and the puppies on their own will start to eat it. Remember, dogs have been doing this for generations, they do not need our intervention to get through the entire weaning process and by interfering we more often than not compromise it. Just monitor them and by 4 to 6 weeks they will be eating on their own...
