Default Vaccinations for Senior Dog

I'm a first time owner of a 10 year old Shih Tzu. I'm wondering what vaccinations do you give your dog and how often? I have heard conflicting stores about vaccinations and the one that stands out is that after 10 years of distemper shots, the dog is probably immune. I'm about to pick out a vet but so many that I speak to want to shove everything down my throat. Thanks

Default vaccination questions also

I would also like to know the answer to the vaccination question. I have 4 small breed dogs all 4 years and under and i am about to start the round of annual vaccines, but wonder if it is necessary?

My vet's turned out to be pretty good about working with me when it comes to vaccinations. I've agonized every year at vaccination time over the past few years about whether to continue vaccinating Gunther or not (he's 9 yrs. old now). I finally made the decision this year of no more vaccinations. Gunther was due for 4 vaccinations and his wellness exam in May. During the exam I explained to my vet that I didn't want Gunther getting any more vaccinations. She didn't right away protest or anything like that. We discussed it and she was fine with skipping two of the vaccines but she advised me to consider the Lyme's and Leptospirosis vaccines as she'd been seeing an increased number of cases of those in our area. I thought about it and decided to go ahead with those two. Basically, I think a good vet will take your concerns into consideration and not make rash judgements or recommendations. The different schools of thought on vaccinations cover a pretty broad spectrum so unless a vet can give you a good reason why they think a certain vaccination would be in your dog's best interest I'd say do your research and make your own decision. A lot of the time our gut instinct is right on the money.
