Question Should I take my puppy swimming?

I have a 5 months old puppy (mixed Lab). Is it a good idea to take him for a swim (sea water)? If yes - should I wash him afterwards?

Absolutely! Labs are water loving dogs usually (I had a Golden that didn't like the water...that is the exception, not the rule, though) and yours might love to play in the water. Just make sure that you can control the dog and don't let him go too deep. As for washing him after, absolutely! The sea water will irritate his skin if it is not washed off, not to mention, have you ever taken a swim in the ocean and then not washed your hair? The salt get all "yucky" and makes you feel itchy!! Good luck!

I agree, take the little guy out! Just don't force him in. I've seen people toss their pups into water and the dog is then scared of it for life (not that I really think that would happen with a lab). And as others have said, make sure you can control him. I've had friends lose dogs who get caught in ocean currents
