5 mth old w/soft stool
Bio
sex: Male
acquired: 4/2, rescued from shelter
age: around 5 mths
weight: 41 lbs
breed: Pure mutt - perhaps some Golden Ret, Shepherd and something that is keeping his height down - Shar-Pei (some wrinkles on his forehead), Shiba Inu (has the same build + thick coat)
Vaccinated
Neutered
Tested - negative - recently for parasites/worms
Sometime in May, after successfully weaning him from the supermarket brand food given to him at the shelter, he developed soft stool. We then immediately took his "wet"/canned food away. After a couple of days of only dry food (Science Diet - Puppy Original) we came to the conclusion that it may be the dry food. So we decided to try a different formula ... Well to make a long story short, here we are 2 months and several formulas/brands later and the poor puppy still has an issue with soft stool - incidentally each change was done over a period of 10 - 12 days. I should also add, though his meals seem to "run right through him", he is generally healthy (other than clear discharge from his eyes at night) and is gaining weight at a normal rate.
What we've tried-
Science Diet: Puppy Org
Nature's Best: Chicken and brown rice (current), Lamb and brown rice
Royal Canin: Puppy Large Breed
Eukanuba: Large Breed
What we've discovered so far-
There are no "sensitive stomach" formulas available for puppies - plenty for adults
"Ask your Vet ..." Yeah right they are truly no help
He doesn't like the lamb formulas
We want to stay away from the canned pumpkin "fix"
We are thinking of just switching him to an adult formula at this point. We understand that he is still growing and needs the added protein/fat in his diet but we may not have any other choice (Wellness has a new formula - Core - that may fit our need).
Short of having us go out and spend $40 bucks for a 10lb bag of food or putting him on a "raw" diet, we sure welcome any advice.
TIA
