Dog Not Eating
Hello, My sister has an 8 month old Corkie who is just very very picky. She bought some patties of raw food but decided to cook it as she was too nervous to serve raw. At any rate, her puppy ate it voraciously for a week and now, nothing. She was trying many kinds but she would just turn up her nose at any food. Any suggestions or ideas?
Many thanks.

If you tried all the best food for dogs and it doesn't work...maybe its not the food its your dog...you must consult your vet about that matter...

I agree consult the vet, but it may just be a pickey eater.
You're describing exactly what we went through with my dog. Eventually we found a food she'd eat (roll over) but we still have to hand feed her quite often just to entice her to eat.

If your vet determines there's nothing wrong, and you just have a picky eater, I'd suggest you try the "You snooze, you lose" approach. Put her food down and walk away. Go back in 10 minutes. If she hasn't eaten it, say nothing. Just pick it up and put it away. No fussing, no cajoling her to eat, no adding anything to make it more appealing, and no treats between meals.
At the next meal time, repeat. It usually doesn't take too many missed meals before they're happy to eat it right down.

Finally found how to reply
Hello,
I am just learning how to work my way around this site so please excuse me for not replying. All good ideas. I will share them with her.
One other note, my dog (labradoodle) has been caught in a food recall! I am just sick about it but have been in touch with the company. Poor little guy was
not feeling well (vomiting, diarrhea, listless) - to the vet, back home feeling better so eats the food a bit - gets sick again...This went on for over a month. I know it sounds like we were stupid not to think of the food but we thought it must have been something he got into on a walk or something. Even the vets thought it was something else and did not suggest his food. Finally found out from our breeder that his food was being recalled and it was definitely the formula he had been eating since his arrival from the breeder (2 months of age). We have been back and forth to the vet 5 times and none of the visits suggested his food. I will contact everyone involved (retailer and vets) to let them know.By the way, the company has been in touch already and very willing to help - or at least has expressed that. I guess time will tell.

Wow, there have been so many food recalls! I'm so glad you found out what was wrong. Makes me think even more that I need to start making my dog's food....

It might be worth giving him different food such as table scrapes over his normal food. But to know the real cause of the problem, take him to the vet.
