Exclamation The Healthy Coat Secret Weapon

My dog Jake had a real problem with a dull coat and dry skin. After several trips to the vet and a number of very expensive treatments, absolutely no improvement. I just about gave up but he was itching and very uncomfortable from the dry skin.

Just by chance I happened to take a trip home. My family farms and has a lot of livestock. The day after I arrived the vet was there on his monthly round and I figured what could I lose by asking Dr. DooLittle. We laughingly call him that because of the way he talks to the animals, and answers for them too.

He told me to put a raw egg in his food once a day and the problem would clear up. I decided to try it and within a week I began to see improvement. I am happy to say Jake now has a beautifully shiny coat and the itchy dry skin is gone. All because of an egg!!

Hey thanks for sharing! I've heard of that, but it isn't something I think about a lot. In fact, I knew a family that treated their Irish Setter to a cooked egg every Sunday. They swore it was good for her coat. I personally prefer to cook the egg for my dog, to prevent her getting salmonella, but yeah, every now and then I give her one too, just for her coat. : )

Sounds like a good idea. Dublin's skin gets dry in the winter. I'll give it a try.

Default Try a little olive oil too...

My parents swore by it when they showed collies. They would add a little egg and olive oil to the dogs' dry food. The olive oil also helps with digestion if they are having issues too.

They came up with this idea from my great grandfather who was an Italian barber. He used to make a homemade conditioner out of raw egg, olive oil and mayonnaise. The Italian side of the family also ate a lot of olive oil and always seemed to have shiny beautiful hair.

My dog's coat has always been soft and shiny. Just a little splash of olive oil!

A little clove of garlic wrapped in cheese so it tastes good has always helped keep the parasites and worms away from my dog too!

Row egg is not the best to give your dog, dogs don’t digest row eggs. When you give cook egg it will get the most nutrition from. What else you can do is give once or twice per week pasta with can tuna in oil this will make dog coat superb (I do show dogs and I need make sure they coats are perfect) or you can feed your dog with OX cheeks (row or cook) plus veg and rice/pasta.

Maybe because of the protein that is present in raw eggs... a diet that is too low in protein may cause some hair thinning or stop the growth cycle.
