Unhappy Diabetic Dog--Still not under control

Dear Members:
This is my post to this forum so I hope I am doing it correctly.

Our Jack Russell--age 7, male, was diagnosed with diabetes August 19.
At that time he weighed 38 pounds. Now he ways 27. He went completely blind in a matter of 3-4 days.
We have him on a measured high protein diet, eating twice a day.
We are giving him 8 units of Vetsulin after he eats.
He is still losing weight, drinking lots of water, urinating frequently and lethargic.

My questions: One vet told us to feed 4 times a day, the last one said 2 times a day. Which is best?

Shouldn't his blood sugar be under control by now?

What other treatment do they give dogs with diabetes?

Sorry, I have no experience with canine diabetes, but there is a great mailing list you can join to get help from those who are and who have gone thru this with their own pets. Here's a link: Pets with Diabetes: Home Page

Keep your chin up and don't give up...you are all your pal has to help get this insidious disease under control. I have a friend who successfully treated her canine pal for 12 years so there is hope.

While it may be possible I would be concerned that his insulin dosage may need to be adjusted or he is not eating like he should. I would check with your vet, three incidents in one week would really worry me.

Default Any value in some soups?

I create a uncut sort of soups that check out extraordinary, and can be made in big batches and frozen.
Is there any interest?
