Default Year Old Male Coton hasn't dropped testicles? Problem??

My male Coton hasn't dropped his jewels yet. Anyone know about this? Is this OK or is it dangerous. I haven't a clue. I will call the Vet but just curious if anyone has encountered the same problem? Thanks.

Retained testicles are fairly common. He is at a greater risk for problems and should be altered sooner rather than later. It will depend on where exactly his testicles are as to how invasive the surgery would be. I had a foster dog who's testicles were in his "groin" area on either side...procedure was very simply. If they are retained in the abdomen, the surgery is a bit more difficult.

"Cryptorchid dogs should never be allowed to breed. This is a well-documented genetic trait, passed on to future generations. In addition, because of the potential for an increased incidence of torsion or cancer within the retained testicle, it is strongly recommended that all of these individuals be neutered. The surgery to remove a retained testicle is more involved than a routine neuter. The veterinarian must literally hunt for the testicle, which may be located anywhere from the area around the kidney in the abdomen to the muscle near the groin." Just mention it at your next appointment. Pup's go every 6 months to get shots, so I wouldn't imagine it's urgent before then.

I totally agree wtih this and at a year old they should have dropped by now.... your pup definitely needs to be neutered as retained testicles can be a precurser to cancer
