I don't own this dog, it's my cousins, but I love him. I walk him just about everyday. Last night I noticed that he had trouble pooping, he squatted for 5 minutes and nothing came out, than stopped somewhere else and squatted even longer and some came out I couldn't really tell if anything came out the first time because it was too dark. Today the same thing happened except it took him even longer to go, and when he was done he started dragging his butt on the ground. When we came home he started dragging his butt on the rug and when we looked at his anus its all red and swollen. My cousin doesn't have much money so I'll take him to the vet tomorrow if you think its necessary.

I took pictures. I had to hold him upside down, and I'm sure it hurt, however; the ends justify the means if it will help him.

From your description, I suspect Teddy has impacted/infected anal sacs. He could also be constipated, but the butt dragging is strongly suggestive of an anal sac problem. And yes, he should be seen by a vet.

To aid the constipation, if he is constipated, your cousin could add some canned, plain pumpkin or cooked sweet potato to his food every day. This will also help his anal sacs to express naturally, so they don't become impacted again.

I was wondering if you took the poor dog to the vet?
I had a pekinese that used to get infected anal glands pretty regular so everytime I had a vet appointment I would have him express them. He would have all of the same symptoms you described. The first time it happened I didn't get him to the vet soon enuf and they ruptured. That was awful, especially for my dog. I will never make that mistake again.

You have to bring this poor dog to the vet. An immediate medical treatment will help him a lot.
