Bloody Stools.....
My boy's name is Hunter, a cattledog/shepherd mix. Hes about two years and I just got him a month ago. Hes been in good health but yesterday I got a text message saying that my dog pooped in the house. When I returned, sure enough, there was some poop on the rug. It looked a little watery, so I passed it off as an accident (he is terrific about going outside when he has to go). Well since that moment, about 4 o'clock yesterday and all through the night, I have been taking him out every two hours because he had diarrhea. Around 4 in the morning, he threw up and threw up again later this morning. No food contents, just a white foamy substance. Then, when he had diarrhea next, his stool was bloody. And since then he has had bloody loose stool.
So off to the vet we go! Ironically, I just had him checked out at my local vet, just a physical checkup, but I was worried because he was wiping his butt and thought he might have worms. They said he didn't have worms but they also checked his anal sacs and drained them. Well now that he is haveing diarrhea he is wiping his butt all the time and I'm taking him to a drifferent vet. I have suspicions that instead of helping his anal sacs, maybe the doctor did it wrong and infected it instead. Either that, or my pooch ate something bad, because of the throw up. He could also have a virus, but my worst fear is that he ate something bad thats now an intestinal obstructions, but I don't think he would be passing much if it were that. He is still in high energy, he doesn't seem lethargic at all, but he also won't drink, which worries me with all the diarrhea. I don't dare give him anything to eat. But anyway, please keep your wishes for my animals because my old cat is also very sick, and we might have to put her down soon. Emotions are running high and I'll keep you all updated on what happens at the vet today with all my animals.

Hunter is doing fine now...even though no one replied. Lol. Oh well, I enjoy writing this down just to vent my own feelings. Anyhow, Hunter's sacs were inflamed, which makes me very happy because it is easy to treat. He hasn't had diarrhea since mid day and hes holding down his meal and his pills that the vet gave me. He also gave me a cream to apply on his behind if his buttom looks swollen or hurting. So my poochie should be better in no time.

bloody stools & corn-based foods
Hi,
Glad to hear your dog is OK. I'm looking for information on how to firm up my dog's stools. He's a 10-year old Boston Terrier, and for quite a few years now he's had soft bowel movements. For awhile, they were bloody too, but we got rid of the blood, by taking him off any foods that contain corn. Just wanted to let you know, in case Hunter ever has a bloody bum again. I'm looking for suggestions to firm up my little guy's poops. We've been to the vet, and she suggested some quality foods which we are now using.
Good luck with your cat.
Thanks,

I love how everyone posts AFTER you solve the problem :-D
For loose stool, this also helps if the dog has problems with leaking anal sacs, you can give him 1/2cup-1cup of pumpkin with dinner. I did that with my dog and it did help his anal sacs a bit. (He tends to leak a lot...)

In a young puppy there are many reasons for bloody stools; food changes, intestinal parasites, parvo, to mention a few. The only person who can diagnose this is your vet. Please don't wait. Bloody stools in puppies are a cause for concern, and your pup needs to be seen by a vet ASAP.
