Dog food
What kind of food does your dog eat? do you feed it table scraps? im having an issue with my puppy. She doesnt like any dog food at all.She just walks away from it.Barely touches anything. She doesnt have worms she's been to the vet. They told me it was normal for a dog to go thru stages like this where they wont eat?is that true? what can i give her? she does seem to like chicken i broiled chicken one night cut it up and she ate that no problem at all.not that she is always fed table food but she seems to like it especially chicken.Any suggestions? i did see where i can make my own dog food so to speak and i think im going to try that and see how it works.i found great recipes for it.

Better rid off the cooked chicken bones, they are too sharp for dog stomach. Mom always prepared home made food for my buddy. He has raw food/meat diet which did really amazing to his health. We also feed Chicken Soup for Dog Lover's...

I feed my dogs Purina One
The most important thing to look at is the ingredient list. The first ingredient should always be some type of meat (beef or chicken are most common).

I agree... chicken bones can cause some serious health problems to your pet's digestive system...

I feed my dog Addiction Salmon Bleu dry food and home-cooked. I'm so happy with the ingredients in Salmon Bleu cos I was searching for a good fish-based dry food, I home cook beef and some fish.
If you make sure the cooked chicken doesn't have bones then its fine, cos the bones splinter too easily when cooked and are harmful. If you like the bones you could feed raw. One of my dog's favourite homecooked meals has beef chuck, liver, broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes. You could try that too!

I forgot 2 more things:
1. Be careful with the table scraps because our food is a lot saltier than dog food, too much sodium isn't good for them
2. I find it useful to homecook in big batches, I freeze it in individual portions then take it out and microwave before serving, it saves a lot of time. Hope this helps!

If you want to give your dog bones, beef bones are great. But like wishbone here said, chicken bones are terrible for dogs.

My suggestion is that you pick a high quality food, made with human grade ingredients, and only give her 10 minutes to eat it. If she doesn't, you pick it up and put it away until her next meal time. If you keep trying to find something to tempt her into eating, you're going to create a picky eater who's always holding out for something "better". Once she figures out "If you snooze you loose" she'll be happy to eat.

This is not an uncommon problem for small dog breeds. I have a four pound Yorkie bitch who is on a "every other day" diet. Keep in mind, that what you think is "nothing" can be a lot of food for a small dog. Just don't fall into the trap of offering her the best of the best off your plate when she snears her nose at what you offer. If you have ruled out a health problem, then consider it a training problem. Make sure you are feeding your dog the highest quality food you can afford - you may even want to look at a raw diet. Once you have decided that a "normal" dog would die for what is on the plate of your pup, then you need to lay down the law. This is harder on you than on your dog. Basically what I tell my pet training clients:
Put the food down in front of your dog. Give your dog a peaceful and quite place to eat. Ideally, it should be in the same spot and in the same dish and around the same time every night. Also, ideally, your dog should have had a chance to do #1 and #2 beforehand. Then simply wait 20 minutes. Pick up the bowl and throw out whatever food remains after 20 minutes. DO NOT feed table scraps or anything other than the dog's food during this training period. Make sure yuo are not free feeding. The food goes down at the same time every day and gets picked up at th same time every day. A couple of days of this regime - should get your dog the sense that "oh, I better eat now." Healthy dogs DO eat. So your dog will catch on pretty quickly. Don't worry - during this period - dogs are adapted as predators not to have food all the time. My only concern with a little one like this is to watch out for signs of hypoglycemia. Ask your vet to show you what to look for. beyond that, this system of regurlarly scheduled meals WILL work

My puppy was the same way. When we first got him, the vet gave us soft food to help him eat all of the nutrients he needed, and he LOVED it. Would almost have a spasm waiting to eat it. Then we started to feed him other soft food because he would not eat the Puppy Chow we bought. ALL of a sudden, he would not touch that soft food, and now he wont eat any soft dog food at all.
We started buying him Kibbles & Bits mini bits, which he seems to like. We occasionally cook plain chicken or ground beef and mix that in, but only in small amounts and on occasions. My dog is very stubborn, and will not eat his own food until he realizes that he is not getting anything else. The kibbles and bits is great thought because it has some softer pieces mixed in, so I think we are going to stick with that.
