| | Guest | Need help-can't afford vet
My husky mix has been acting really sick. She's always tired and she's losing some fur on her belly. I know she needs to go to the vet but I can't afford it. I called the vet and they said she probably needs a blood test, and if she does it would be around $200. I told the vet I can't afford it and asked if I could make payments, and she said I can't and there's really nothing they can do. I don't know what to do... please help.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I know how heartwrenching it must be to watch your dog suffer, and not be able to do anything about it. Since the only real solution requires money you don't have, I can try to offer some suggestions on ways to acquire some extra cash:
Are you currently working? Are you physically able to? Could you fit more work into your schedule, if it was available? How about taking on a paper route? Or wait tables on weekends/holidays? Or you could get on as a maid and clean some houses. These are jobs (except for the paper route) in which you could earn $200 in just a weekend, at $10 per hour. Where I live, we have a lot of youth rehab centers. These places require staff at night too-- we just sit there and watch the kids sleep while we read or study. It's easy work, and easy money. It's very popular with retired folks, college students, and young parents who just need a little extra money to make ends meet, without expending a lot of extra energy. I don't know if you have any facilities like that where you are, but even a night clerk in a hotel would be similar, I imagine.
What other skills/talents do you have? Can you make something that people would be willing to buy? Can you paint? knit? crochet?
What about holding a yard sale?

Sorry for the long reply.
Yes, I'm working, I'm a high school teacher. I'm a single mom and have a 3 year old daughter, so I don't know how much more I could work. Thanks for your suggestions I'll try to find something. I don't think there are any youth rehab centers or something like it around where I live. I am good at cross stitching and painting, and sometimes I sell them at craft fairs, but those are only a few times a year. I can definitely try a yard sale.
Another question - If I found a vet that will allow me to make payments or something else, would I be able to take my dog there just once? Or would I have to change vets permanently? Sorry if that's kind of a stupid question, but I've never switched vets before | |

Sorry if that's kind of a stupid question, but I've never switched vets before | I really think it boils down to conscience and ethics: Naturally, a vet who is willing to be gracious enough to offer you credit is hoping you will become a permanent client, though they realize there is no guarantee. In kind, most people who find someone who offers this kind of mercy will switch over, simply out of gratitude. But the prevailing question ultimately will be: Do you find you prefer the new vet over your "regular" vet? Is he/she actually kinder and gentler to your pet? Does he/she seem to possess some knowledge or skill with your pet that the other vet does not? These are the reasons people change vets, family physicians, or any other kind of professional service.
I empathise with your situation, and hope things work out for you soon. Good luck!

It might worth a try to contact a husky rescue and discuss the situation with them. They may be able to help you with deeply discounted medical services. There are also other organization that might be able to assist you. I've provided a link below. http://www.animalprotectionsociety.o...Aid%20Orgs.doc |

You could also contact your local humane society and explain your situation to them, also try local adoption agencies. They may be abl to refer you to a low cost vet or a place that will take payments.

Check these organizations, they offer financial aid for people who have pets and cannot afford costs. Much is small loans. Angels4Animals- Guardian Angels For Animals- Financial Assistance for Pet Care AAHA Helping Pets Fund The Pet Fund
this is just a few of several organizations.
Good luck.
