I need advice. My 9 year old Male Rotweiller Caleb has a tumor in his mouth which has grown into the bone. The Vet told us we need to surgically remove it immediately. Does anyone know of any other method to treat a mouth tumor. The Vet wants to remove half of his lower jaw. Are there any other treatments that are successful? Cryo-surgery or laser surgery without removing the jaw. How will he eat. The Vet said he will be ok, but I asked for a biopsy and the results are not back yet and he wants to do surgery right away.

I would really appreciate any advice as I am very upset.

I can't tell you want to do. How much do you trust your current vet? I have a really good relationship with my current vet and would trust her opinion/advise but I've had vets in the past I would not have been so trusting of. You may want to get a second opinion from another local vet. Did you ask your vet how the dog would eat after losing part of it's jaw? I suspect if it was me hearing such news, I'd not think of questions until I got home and the shock began to wear off! Can you call the vet and ask your questions? If he/she isn't willing to answer your questions, then perhaps another vet would be best?
