Question Has anyone here not gotten their dog spayed or neutered because the dog couldn't....

Has anyone here not gotten their dog spayed or neutered because the dog couldn't handle going under Anestisia?

How do you feel about this issue?

I know with Pugs, Frenchies, and other flat faced dogs that they suggest not putting under or doing the surgery.

I know of two people....one had a Frenchie and the other had a boston.

And 1 other person who's dog had a weak heart.

But I'm just curious how you feel about that.

I know I wouldn't take the risk of putting the dog under......

I firmly believe in spaying or neutering but if I had a dog that couldn't handle the anetisia I would just take the measures to make sure he/she wasn't able to mate.

How do you feel about this? And have any of you had to make this choice?

Default Being 'Put Under'

If I had a dog w/a problem with that---I sure wouldn't get it done---Why take a chance--It would be horrible and very sad (and think of the guilt you would feel) if the dog didn't survive it. I just hate it when I have to have a dog under--and mine has no problem---SO FAR! I won't even leave the vet's office while this is being done. Someone in here mentioned about using oxygen (someone who worked in a vet's office) instead of the anesthesia--and to talk to the vet about it--if they can do it there. Don't know whether this could be done for something like that operation as would need to be under longer than teeth cleaning. Maybe you can find that post and 'talk' to whoever it was and get more info on this.

If the vet confirmed via xray that my dog had tracheal stenosis (narrowing of the windpipe) which makes her a huge anaestesia risk, there is no way I would have my dog spayed. I'm a huge fan of spaying and neutering for obvious reasons but not if it places my dog in great peril. Conversely, if my dog did not have tracheal stenosis, I would have the spay done. Way too many reasons to spay and only one not to.
