Default What to expect?

Zoe will be getting spayed tomorrow, what can I expect after this? Will she be in pain? sleepy? I just want to be prepared if there is something I can do for her. Thanks.

My experience has been that the dog is awake but groggy when I picked her up. After sleeping it off at home, there didn't seem to be any pain or discomfort or anything. You'll need to be sure she doesn't pull her stitches out.

My dog got neutered on Tuesday, and you cannot tell! They told us that he cannot run or jump for 14 days, but when I came home form work on Tuesday, he was alert, playful, and his usual hyper self. He was anethesized and had pain medication, so we thought he would be a little groggy. He also tried to hump my sister in law Tuesday night! Is it normal for a dog to bounce back so quickly? I mean I am happy that he does not look like he is in pain, but you would seriously never be able to tell he was neutered

Default don't let him/her overdo it

The only thing you need to be careful of if the dog is alert and wants to play and "seems" fine after the spay/neuter is that jumping around can cause a hernia to appear near the stitched area. I only know this because when we had our male neutered, you'd never know he had surgery and he was his "normal" playful self so we figured it was fine and he ended up developing a hernia right above where the incision was.

Just my 2 cents worth

THANKS - that is very helpful! I was wondering what could happen. We have not really been playing with him, and have tried to calm him down when he is hyper by petting him and trying to get him to lay down. The dog is very hyper (we think its the Jack Russell in him) usually, but I just get so nervous! It is just so hard to calm a puppy down when all they want to do is play, but I will make sure to keep him relaxed.

Zoe got spayed on Tues. and yesterday she was still kind of out of it. She was so hungry yesterday, ate 3 meals, she usually doesn't like to eat all three. This morning she is like her old self, that cone inhibits her quite a bit. She tries to scratch her back paws with her teeth but can't get at em, so she shakes it off. Can't wait until the 10 days are up so she can take that darn thing off.
