Default Anti-Anxiety Meds

I've been working on behavior modification exercises with my rescue for five weeks now in an effort to ease his separation anxiety. He hasn't improved much, and I have to go back to work next week. The vet suggested using anti-anxiety meds in addition to continuing the behavior modification. Has anyone had any experience with them?

I chose not to use prescription anti-anxiety meds with my SA dog -- it's an individual choice. You need to research and come to your own conclusions based on your situation.

Things to consider:
1. How severe is the SA.
2. What is your tolerance level for handling the SA? This is important because you don't want to end up wanting to take the dog back to the shelter.
3. How manageable is the SA?
4. Neighbors/landlords....are they an issue?
5. What meds to use and what are their side-effects. For how long to use them?
6. What other options are you implimenting? for example: exercise, training (both general and specific to the SA), diet, supplements, etc.
