Default Mammary tumor + infection?

My 6 year-old female labrador retriever developed a dwelling in one of it's mammaries, we took it to the vet and he said that it was a mammary tumor coupled with a bacterial infection and told us to give the dog enroflaxin for 10days. First he said that the dwelling was not hard by touch enough to be a tumor, then he said that it was likely a tumor but with an infection around it.

Now i'm kinda worried that his diagnosis may not have been accurate; he made mistaken diagnosis in the past (like saying that the dog had a phantom pregnancy when it was in fact pregnant lol).

Now is it possible that a tumor will increase the likelihood of an infection around it? I don't want to spend 10 days giving my dog antibiotics when in the meanwhile we could just remove the tumor (and not let it spread if it's malignant) if there ever is one.
