Unhappy Nose bleeds and losing weight

I have a Newfoundland/Black Lab mix, Dink. I'd like to give a little background info on him first. He was rescued out of a dump in Colorado by a truck driver which had just seen him beaten and then ran over with a truck. Dink's head had been crushed severely and he was extremely emaciated. When I received Dink, he was all healed and very fit again; the only issue was his right eye now turns in to his nose permanantly. He was beautiful!! It has been a little over a year now that I have had him. I believe him to be about 2-3 years of age but can not be sure. About 5 months ago he started bleeding from the nose for no apparent reason. I immediately took him to the vet and had him checked, they couldn't find anything wrong with him with just a basic once-over and sent me home. He has had several episodes since then; some severely gushing from both sides, others just a drainage from one side while he sleeps. Aside from the nose bleeds, he has lost a lot of weight. His normal weight is 120 lbs, and he weighs in right now at about 85 lbs and litterally looks to me like a walking carcase; I can count every rib standing across the room. He is still eating and drinking and his potties look normal. He just keeps losing weight. I don't know if one issue is related to the other, but I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this for me. I've spoke to the vet and they don't know what else to do...wondering if I need a second opinion with a different vet....I'm desperate.....he is Mama's BIG baby and I would be lost without him.

Perhaps the vet can run some blood tests to check if his blood is clotting properly? There are various bleeding disorders in dogs, one being Von Willebrand disease, another being Thrombocytopenia. Some tick borne diseases have also been known to cause nosebleeds. Another thing they can check is if there are any tumors in his nasal area with an x-ray. Sometimes tooth abscesses may cause nasal bleeding however, in both the tumors and tooth abscesses scenario generally the bleeding is uni-lateral.
Any chances he could have ingested rat poison? Or, any chances he could have injured himself lately? I think some blood clotting blood work and nasal x-rays could be a good starting point. They should also consider bone marrow issues. How often are these nosebleeds? How come the vet has not suggested any further testing? I agree with seeing another vet if the your vet is clueless.

Has your pet been checked for cushings disease, nosebleeds can happen, I'd go to another vet, nosebleeds are no good, something is wrong. My pet had some terrible nosebleeds, he was 14 and I had to put him down, don't hesitate go to another vet.
