My lab gagging and dry heaving in the middle of the night. This is the second time in about two months. She eats Candidate dog food, and so does my other lab but she doesn't have a problem. When this happens she wants to go in the backyard and eat grass, a lot of grass, i guess to settle her stomach. Sometimes this goes on for 2-3 hours, very late at night. How concerned should I be???

how much is she drinking? when was the last time a vet saw her? I would take her in for a check up to make sure she doesn't have something lodged somewhere or something else going on.

we had a dog that had dry heaves when she didn't drink enough water. which we ended up buying a filter so she would drink more. had another dog that swallowed a rock that had dry heaves. vet gave some meds . he pooped out the rock and went back to being the same ol dog we had before he ate the rock.

I would get her checked.

First, have your vet give your dog a once over. The heaving could be nothing more than acid indigestion (yes, dogs get it too) or it could be something more serious, like Addison's disease.

If everything checks out OK, you could try giving your dog a small meal just before bed time. This seems to help many dogs that have dry heaves in the middle of the night.
