Default Transition from Puppy Chow to Blue Buffalo Puppy

Hello everyone,
I have a six week old boxer puppy and the family I got him from, fed him puppy chow. I realize he's young, but he's fully weaned and eats kibble with a little bit of water just fine. My other dogs eat Blue Buffalo, so I'm transitioning the puppy over to BB Puppy. How long should it take for him to be completely off the Puppy Chow? Thanks! Rachel

I used to change kibble (I now use a totally different diet) over within a 10 day period.

Day 1 - 10% new kibble, 90% old kibble
Day 2 - 20% new kibble, 80% old kibble
Day 3 - 30% new kibble, 70% old kibble
Day 4 - 40% new kibble, 60% old kibble
Day 5 - 50% new kibble, 50% old kibble
Day 6 - 60% new kibble, 40% old kibble
Day 7 - 70% new kibble, 30% old kibble
Day 8 - 80% new kibble, 20% old kibble
Day 9 - 90% new kibble, 10% old kibble
Day 10 - 100% new kibble.
It might be worth, once you get over 60% new kibble, adding a little bit of canned food on it to make it a little more appetizing. Kudos to you for choosing a good quality kibble for the pup!

Yes, that is perfect... you want to change slowly over a period of time. I would not use the canned food is it will most lilely create a picky eater. Leave the food down for 10 minutes per meal, after the 10 minutes pick up the food and don't offer it again until the next meal. This will teach your puppy to eat his food when you put it down.

Also, I'm happy to hear you are changing from one of the WORST foods to one of the BEST

Thank you OrangeDog and UnderDog! I appreciate the advice. Kaiser seems to really like the Blue Buffalo and even goes after the little blue antioxidant bits.

This is a good guide on how you should introduce the new food to your pet's diet.

I think that you are doing the right thing changing to Blue Buffalo because it is really healthy for dogs and just give it about a week and he will get used to it.

Gradually give the puppy some of the new food but id say 7-10 days for it to be completly use to the Blue Buffalo. (Good Luck)
