Thumbs up My dogs started a raw diet yesterday.

My two dogs (a 15-pound JRT and a 45-pound collie/terrier mix) started a raw diet yesterday. The little dog did fine. The bigger dog got sick and puked up every bit of the chicken he had eaten. I fed them twice today instead of once and fed the bigger dog smaller portions (that's all he wanted, anyway) and he has done better - so far no puking.

I had their first raw meal videotaped and it's on my blog.

Nice video. I see what you mean about the smaller dog now. If he doesn't show much interest, you can try tie-ing a piece of string/rope to the food and dragging it about a bit for him, being a JRT he will quickly catch on to chase/'kill'/eat it.
Also, dogs DO need organs at least once a week.

I just made a post with links for more information and lost it!

I guess I'll start over and hope I don't lose this one.

I posted a lot of the information I've gathered about raw feeding on my blog - Pick of the Litter. You can click on the link on there and it will take you to where you can learn more.

Here are some more links that I was given: BARF for Beginners (not the diet I'm doing), Myths about Raw Feeding, and another Raw Diet.

I was told that chicken bones are soft and my dogs don't have trouble chewing them and haven't choked on them, but I was told that you have to be careful with the chicken necks because some dogs can choke on them.

UnderDog is right - they DO need organs once a week, but I was told to start with chicken backs only for a week until their digestive system gets used to the change and then start adding other meat, fish, organs and raw eggs (shells and all - yuck!).

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I read that somewhere and tried to get some at my local meat market but they said they can't get them because their supplier sends all the chicken feet to China.
