Default My poor dog has diabetes

My dog has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Yesterday he had a glucose curve. He has lost quite a lot of weight too quickly as he has not been eating. I was advised to use a precscription dried dog food but I could still give him his chicken, he hated the biscuits and would not eat hardly any and lost more weight. After yesterday's glucose curve he is still on 17.5 which is still high. I was given more prescription food but tinned and he loves it. He is quite weak at the moment after such a weight loss over a short period of time but I am hoping he will build himself back up now he is eating - legs are still wobbly. He has to go back again on Saturday for another test on his glucose but the vet has not ruled out he could have a tumour in his tummy but he said he want to carry on with the insulin for the moment to see if it works. Now he is eating I am hoping this is all it will be. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love to hear from you.
Bye for now

Hi Lorral, There is a poster on this forum by the name of K9lady who can probably help you.. She has a post about 4 down from this one.
She has alot of information about Diabete's in her post and I'm sure she will try to help you as best as she can if you message her..

My pup was just diagnosed with Lyme, High blood pressure and protein level's that are too high, I know how I felt when I was told, I was so shocked, worried and I felt all alone... We are not alone Lorral, there are other's out there that have lived with pup's like our's and who are living with them now and they are doing ok.... Hang in there....

Prayer's to you and your pup, and please keep us updated on how it's going.

Default How are you doing now?

My dog has diabetes, too, and I was wondering how yours is doing. If it makes you feel any better, my boy was diagnosed 3 years ago, and while he's not problem free, he's bounced back from everything that's happened. I started a blog (Living with a Diabetic Dog) to talk about the day-to-day issues that come up. I think it's important to let people know that there are plenty of folks taking care of diabetic dogs so that more will at least try to deal with it before looking for other options.
Hang in there. My thoughts are with you.
