Default Osteosarcoma (Canine bone cancer)

Hi I'm new on tis forum but I was wondering if I could har a few peoples experiences of canine Osteosarcoma aka bone cancer, especially in rottweilers. Possibly direct me to some good reference web-sites etc.

A little about myself and my situation. I have a nearly 5-year Rottweiler bitch called Tia who has today been dignosed with Osteosarcoma, the future is unfortuantely looking very bleak and we have been advised by the vet that there are 3-options: -

* Apumation - not an option as she is a big dog and it is in her hind leg.
* Treatment - we are waiting for feedback from Liverpool tofind out whether or not they feel an aggressive plan of chemo or radio therapy would help.
* Medication - medication for swelling and pain to make her last few months more comfortable.

As you can imagine my boyfriend and I are devastated and want to try and find out as mch as posisble so we can make informed decisions that are best for aour beloved T.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hi,
You should check out dogcancerinfo.com. They have helped many dogs with this type of cancer. Their products are all natural.
They have a lot of testimonials from past customers on their site.
I hope this helps!!!

Default Hi friend...

I have a big dog (pit bull/mastiff mix) who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in a hind leg two+ years ago. I did have them do an amputation + doxyrubicin chemo to follow up. At home I have been doing the Budwig flax oil/yogurt or cottage cheese. My dog was presenting symptoms and was misdiagnosed for several months before finally getting treatment...so I'd put his total time since symptoms at close to 2 1/2 years. Hope this gives you hope. I only have my personal experience to go on...but something in the mix seems to be working!!

I'm not sure why you say amputation isn't an option. If it's just because she's a big dog and the cancer is in a rear leg, I'd put amputation back on the table for consideration.

As the vet I work for is fond of saying, dogs have three good legs and a spare. Amputating a rear leg is less of a problem than amputating a front leg. Most dogs compensate really well, and really quickly, after a rear leg amputation. They're up and running around, acting like nothing's wrong, in short order.

Unless there's a health issue you didn't mention, or the tumor is too far up the leg, I'd amputate if it were my dog.
