Default Lump after vaccination

My 13 1/2 week old Shih-poo puppy got her 3rd set of shots (2nd with us) on Monday afternoon and late Thursday night (about midnight) I noticed a lump where she got her shot! Is this normal? I'm gonna call the vet first thing in the morning, but I was hoping someone could ease my mind for the night.

Please research as much as you can about vaccine's. They are a personal decision but it's good to know all you can about them, there is ton's of information on the internet and I would take any reaction seriously..

Here is a good link to start.

When i got cheyenne's rabie vaccination she had a lump on her hip. She couldn't even put her little leg down. I took her back to the vet and the vet told me that sometimes little dogs will get lumps like that after they get their shots. The first rabies she got didn't do that but the second one did.

More then likly it was from one of the shots. But to be on the safe side i would take the dog back to the vet. My vet didn't charge me anything when i took cheyenne back because it was the shot that causes it.

Thanks everyone!

It's definitely from the vaccination. The vet said that it wasn't uncommon for this type of reaction and since she is still acting absolutely normal that it was indeed a reaction to her vaccination. She said that it could last for 1 to 3 weeks & that she'll check it again on her next visit which is in a little over a week. Really scared us, but especially since my parents lost their Corgi on Sunday, the day before she got her shots.

Glad to hear that she is going to be ok and it was just from one of the shots.

Those lumps are not at all unusual. It's usually just localized inflammation. I get a huge lump every time I have to get a tetanus shot. I've even gotten lumps after getting an injection of antibiotics.

Default Don't worry

Hi I have had this happen before. Don't worry that will sort itself out within a few days. Just watch it to make sure that it doesn't get too hot and isn't oozing, or looking infected.
Stop worrying - its a natural reaction by the body.

Wink

anytime this happens,my vet has the owner hot-pack it 3 times a day to get the lump down quickly. She or the techs also massage the injection site for a few moments immediately after the shot.
