I had my male dog neutered and now he keeps on licking his private part. Please help if you have solutions or your pet does/did the same thing. Thanks

My advise would be to call your vet and schedule an appointment for him to be examined. There could be a problem or infection related to the neutering.

I would call the vet. If there is nothing wrong then the vet can give you one of thoses head combs to keep him from licking hiself untik he is heal up.

especially if they have an ouie. Your dog is doing his best to keep himself clean. It's natures way and it is effective. Unless there is extra soreness from the licking, you may consider leaving nature to it's course and letting your dog take care of himself. He will gradually stop the licking as the soreness goes away. If you are greatly concerned, a cone around the neck will keep him from licking (he won't be able to reach beyond the cone to lick). In my opinion the cone is more troublesome than the licking.

Dogs may lick, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing. If the surgery is recent, all that licking can delay healing, and can set him up for infection and some extreme swelling. If he still has sutures, he might rip them out.

If the surgery wasn't recent, and he's had his sutures out, he may be licking because of the internal sutures, which dissolve over time. And as they dissolve there can be some itching and irritation. Again, it can cause some swelling, which is uncomfortable, and will cause him to lick more.

Have your vet check him for any signs of infection. And if his sutures are out, you can try something like Bitter Apple, which tastes horrible, and will make many dogs stop licking.
