Arrow Question About Feeding Rabbit

While doing some other searching on the web, I came across a forum discussion on cooking for their dogs. One recipe had rabbit in it and a couple of members had posted that rabbit had too much protein and was not good for the dog to have. Another came in and stated it was true and you shouldn't give it to your dog at all. Does anybody have any comments to make on this??!!

I've never cooked rabbit for either me or the girls. I have two friends who have rabbits as pets who would happily lynch me for even considering it!!!

Rabbits are soft, cute and cuddly. I do not consider them dog food.

I looked around on the net a bit and I came across some tinned dog food that contained rabbit (didn't think to take note of the brand). I have to agree with Lunareclipse though. Bunnies aren't food. Way too cute and cuddly!

Unhappy

I agree, I would not be killing rabbits myself. Just wanted to know and let other members who may be feeding this as to whether it is bad food for dogs. Truth be told---If I had to kill my own meat, for me or the dogs--I wouldn't be eating meat at all. Brings up something else
(That darn last issue of The Peeing Post has stirred up a lot of things I don't like to think about!!) When you think about it--Most people don't think much about a cow, pig, or chicken, etc. being slaughtered--but when you get right down to it---they are no different than the rabbit for the 'experience! They all have to die and just because the rabbit is cute, etc---How does that make it okay or different---An animal is being killed Period!!

Default Corky/max:

I've been thinking exactly the same thing...I could easily give up meat. I don't eat much of it to begin with - maybe twice a week. However, I know a couple of people who made the decision to put their dogs on a vegetarian diet and, those dogs always seem to be sick. The one person I know who put her cat on a vegetarian diet lost her in less than two years so, I'm not willing to take that chance with my furry kids.

I am disgusted by factory farming methods. I try to buy my meat locally and from animal friendly organic places. It costs more but, my girls aren't getting loads of antibiotics and growth hormone and I feel I am not contributing to the intense cruelty that is part and parcel of factory farming.

However, bearing in mind my two friends with a noose, I still wouldn't consider bunnies as food!

I am about the same way--and actually quite a long time ago I did quit eating meat because I didn't like the animal being killed. But I have to say, it didn't last long as I started craving meat after not having any for a while but If I had to kill it myself--I couldn't do it! Now for my dogs--I would have to force mysellf to do it because even though not a crisis like the cat, I believe they need meat too to stay healthy! However, I know a couple of people who made the decision to put their dogs on a vegetarian diet and, those dogs always seem to be sick. Cats have to have meat or they will die!!--Too bad she didn't know that!

I agree with this too and wish I could do the same but it isn't possible money-wise and not that easy--I would go to a local butcher shop but I think they are pretty much not around anymore--here anyhow!

However, bearing in mind my two friends with a noose, I still wouldn't consider bunnies as food!
I know where you are coming from--It is the emotional attachment. I had a pet cow when I was a kid and would have the same feelings about her being slaughtered as you would the rabbits.

Ye gads!! I am beginning to feel like a vampire of sorts! Hate it!!

Ever since i owned a potbelly pig, i not only cannot eat ham or bacon but i cant even watch a show or anything in it dealing with the harming of pigs, so ya a baby rabbit i dont think so.

It just hit me!! The reason (one of them anyway) a person can't kill a particular animal is because you have not only become emotionally involved--you made it a'friend/buddy'---It is a matter of trust---You don't kill friends. (ethics)
