Default Liver Test

I took my dog to the vet on 7/23/09 for bloodwork. Her liver was slightly elevated. They said to bring her back in about 3 to 4 weeks to check it again. I couldn't wait and took her to another vet about 5 days later. This time it was normal. I'm taking her to her regular vet next week to check it. Could it be possible that her liver is back to normal after just 5 days? A co-worker said that was weird that it went back to normal that fast. Could the 2nd vet test be worng? Any suggestions?

Thank You,

Bernice

Are you referring to liver enzymes?

Yes. Plus her x-ray showed she was really gassy. Her regular vet said it was probably because she ate some old burnt food with honey and barbaque sauce from the grill that my husband threw in the yard. I yelled at him for it. LOL See my orginal post subject "Liver".

Could the liver go back to normal after just 5 days?

Thank You,

Bernice

Anything is possible but, it doesn't seem very likely. I've been dealing with elevated liver enzymes with my 12 year old Border Collie for months! She's taking two types of medication and it took about four months to bring her levels back to normal. Now, she's on a maintenance dose. The liver is amazing for its ability to heal itself but, it doesn't usually happen that fast. BTW, is your dog a senior? Apparently, this is fairly common in senior dogs.

Actually, she's about 8 years old which I believe is middle age.

Your dog is at the age where this tends to become problematic. I was assured that this is a fairly common occurrence and that it wasn't anything to panic about (I tend to do that when anything is wrong with either of my girls). Bailey is taking Hepato Support which is basically milk thistle and something called Deosyl. Between the two medications, everything is fine now but it took some time. I'd have the levels tested again in a month or so and see where you are then.
