Swiffer wet jet
I don't know if this has ever been stated on this forum but I thought I'd share. My mom's vet told her that the spray solution in a swiffer wet jet is toxic to pets over time. I've used the wet jet to mop my floors for the past 2 years (probably another factor in Coco's kidney problems) and I just bought the swiffer broom with the refill pads to mop smaller spaces. I guess I'll be putting them to rest and start using simple vinegar/water solution to mop.

There was a story that circulated a few years ago about the Swiffer wet Jet.
The email claimed that a GSD had died from the effects from the solution. Apparently having walked on the floor and licking his paws. It also stated that the cleaning solution was claimed to be one molecule (?) away from being identical to antifreeze.
In later months they stated the company changed its formula to make it safe for pets.
I have also heard that the email was a hoax.
I dont use one, but unsure of the truth. I have friends who use them and have for years and none of the dogs have had any problems....a good research project for anyone who has the time.

I always err on the side of caution. Although I hate the smell of it, white vinegar and water makes a good and inexpensive cleaner.

If you don't like the smell of the vinegar, put in equal parts lemon juice that you have vinegar (we use 1 part vinegar, 1 part lemon juice and 1 part water for floors, 1 part vinegar, 1 part lemon juice and 2 parts water for bowls/toys etc), it gets rid of most of the smell and makes it smell fresher.

Bless you!!! I'll try it! I am forever gagging when I wash the floors with vinegar. There is something about that smell that just repulses me. Thanks a million!!!

Hi, my name is Marissa and I work for the Swiffer brand. I just wanted to share a few quick facts. The Swiffer WetJet system and other Swiffer product ingredients are safe to use around pets. The safety of these products, when used in accordance with label instructions, has been confirmed by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), independent veterinarians and veterinary scientists.
Independent veterinarians and scientists evaluated the Swiffer WetJet and Swiffer Sweeper Wet Cloths cleaners and found them safe. In fact, Swiffer products have been safely used in over 15 million U.S. homes--many with pets--for nearly five years. The ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) has even posted information about the safety of Swiffer products on their site ( ASPCA: The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Is this the info you were talking about?
ASPCA | Swiffer Wet Jet
What I don't like is how it says that "it does not contain cleaning agents in large enough quantities to be a serious hazard." What about small enough quantities over a long period of time? That's my concern. I'm like another poster said and will choose to err on the side of caution. Especially since I have a pet with kidney disease as it is. She doesn't need anything, even in small amounts, stressing her system any more than it already is.
