Default Picky Dog!

Heys I need your help! My dog is 15 weeks (4 months) and she is a Maltese/Yorkie/Shih Tzu. The problem is.. she is SO picky!

My brother and I have bought her various types of puppy food and also kibbles (purina) She loves them at first, but the next time she doesn't eat them! She only like the food WE eat! But thats not really healthy for her because our food is different. How can I get her to eat her OWN food, and how do I know which is her favourite?

Ok firstly, you're making her picky. Choose a good brand such as James well beloved or Orijen, and stick to it. Put it down at 7 am, 11:30am, 4pm and lastly at 9pm, give her 15 minutes with the bowl down, if she doesn't eat then pick up the bowl and don't give her anything until next meal time and do the same. A healthy dog wont starve itself. Have you tried the BARF diet? What combination are you feeding (ie. wet, dry or wet and dry)? What other foods is she getting? How long have you had her? What was the breeder feeding?

Am pasting here a reply I gave recently to another member!! You can put 2 and 2 together! You would be doing your dog a favor if you fed raw or home-cooked. If you become interested in that---There is a lot to learn to doing it properly but if you go through the posts in here under the title Dog Health and Nutrition, you will find a lot of info and web addresses to click on --You can also search the web on home-cooking/dogs and/or raw feeding/dogs, etc. You should also find the thread in here on Hazardous Foods for your Dog----Click on my username--Corky/Max--go to my profile page, click on statistics--- select find all threads by me and you will find it! Here is the reply to another member:

DITTO!!!

I agree with Lara 100%! I get tired of having to repeat all the time about commercial dog food and how it is unfit for any living thing to eat-----Maybe it is unfit because it is 'dead' as far as any nutrition goes and is just a bunch of empty calories plus a lot of dangerous ones at that!! I can't believe that people who feed this crap can't see what their dog is trying to tell them when they refuse to eat the crap!!! And the dogs that do finally eat it, LOL!! are forced to or waste away (has calories) and die!! God, I feel so sorry for dogs and what all they have to endure!! Another reason they may eat it is because of the high sugar content in some of it---No good for them but like us humans--sugar is addictive!!

The difference between "human food" and "commercial dog food" is that there are standards for the food that people eat. A great many of the pet food companies use sub-standard ingredients, useless fillers and preservatives that are questionable. Some of the stuff they are allowed to put into dog and cat food would make you sick!!! It isn't nutritious. You'd be far better off cooking up some meat, veggies and sweet potato and feeding it to your puppy than giving her that tinned slop that so many companies sell. The same goes for dry food. There are some companies that produce high quality nutritious food but, you need to do some research and understand that the good brands of food don't come cheap.
