Default Help with Tear Stains

I've got a young (12 weeks) cocker/poodle mix who has tear stains. The breeder suggested trimming back the hair around his eyes to minimize the stains, but doesn't prevent them. So, I have 2 questions:

What else can I do to prevent the tear stains?

What can I use to safely remove them?

There is another thread in here about this subject---Go to blue strip across top of page(s) --Find word search--click--put in words tear stain--click find threads--There it is-listed under your thread. I have cocker spaniels and have never had this problem--I do not feed commercial dog food--Wonder if that has anything to do with it. I've had these dogs for 10 and 11 years. They are fed raw and home-cooking also.

Oh, a teaspoon of ACV (daily) in your dog's food also removes tear stains (for those with very light-colored dogs). Results are usually begun to be seen in 7 to 10 days.
