Default Need Help Calming Hyper Dog: Just Started Heartworm Treatment!!!

hello all, my crazy irish setter Hank was sadly diagnosed with heartworms eventho he has been on preventative his whole life. He was put on steroids to help a cough, ended up gaining about 25lbs which put him over 100lbs which was the weight max for his heartguard. So, 8 months after a negative heartworm test, he tested positive for heartworms and was diagnosed stage 3. He's getting the three shot treatment and just got his first shot today. I dont know if any of you have ever had an irish setter but they are craaazy hyper!!! everyone says that dogs are usually tired and dont feel well after treatment but it seems like he was given caffiene and Im super scared he'll clot off and get a pulmonary embolism! he goes absolutely bezerk in a crate, and i try keeping him in a small room but he just cant relax and im scared to death to lose my baby please help!!! anything would be awesome!

p.s. i bought bones, kongs, other toys etc to try and keep him occupied but hes just too hyper!!

Yes, Irish Setters are incredibly active! Have you talked to your veterinarian about putting Hank on a mild sedative (something like Acepromazine). Not positive he could take it while taking the heartworm treatments, but it's worth a shot. There are also some homeopathic alternatives on the market. You might check with your pet store or health food store for a calming supplement -- just make sure you check the ingredients with your vet before giving it to Hank.
