| Pumpkin Seeds for Tapeworms I have been cutting up pumpkins--I use both the pulp and seeds for my 2 dogs. I thought I would tell you of the preventative benefits of the seeds--which I spread out on paper toweling lined cookie sheets to dry--will take several days--want them completely dried through or will 'gum-up' the coffee grinder when you try to grind them. If this starts to happen, just put back on the cookie sheets to dry some more. I figured I'd see if there was some info about pumpkin seeds on the net I could just paste here--There was!--But please do not use the pkged 'snacks' that are salted! You may find some in a natural form in a health food store or even through some vitamin catalogs. Go on net and look up Swanson's vitamin catalog for one (I think). Or, lol, grow your own next year! And I don't know, but would think that winter squash seeds would work too as pumpkin is considered a winter squash! Anyway when I have ground them all up, I put in plastic sandwich bags and store in the freezer and just add from the bag as I need it--It stays loose in the bag. Just sprinkle in with your cooled cooked food or raw food--I don't use any commercial dog food so you that do--You'll have to figure out how to give to your dogs. Here is the article I found: (Will be in 2 sep. posts)

It is an unfortunate fact that dogs sometimes get worms. It is uncomfortable for them, and annoying for us. Since our dogs often spend a lot of time outdoors in parks, our backyards, or just going for walks it very easy for them to get these parasites because they lay their eggs in the soil.
Many people who like to live a natural lifestyle and eliminate as many chemicals, additives, and artificial components as possible from their diets, also like to have their pets live this lifestyle as well. Surprisingly there are a number of natural remedies that can be used to treat your dog's worm problem. Some of them are herbal and some homeopathic, and the beauty of them is that you can try whichever ones you like, or one at a time until you find the one that works best for you and your dog.
Obviously if possible you want to keep your dog from getting worms in the first place, and there is something that you can do that is natural to ensure your dog never gets worms. If you grind up pumpkin seeds and put it in your dog's food, then your dog will never get worms. You only need to add a little of the crushed pumpkin seeds for this to work, you need only add 1/4 teaspoon daily. You can do this for two weeks and then add wheat bran to your dog's diet. You need to make sure you soak the bran in water, and then add 1/8 of a teaspoon for every 10 lbs for larger dogs, but then only a pinch for smaller breeds. The beauty of this is it's natural and will save your having to treat your dog for worms.
But let's say your dog gets worms, then what? There are actually a couple of wonderful herbal remedies which will help your dog to expel the worms. The best herbal remedy for this is wormwood or Artemisia Absinthinium if you want to use its scientific name. Wormwood is a digestive tonic and has calmative properties which help the dog to expel the worms so he/she is no longer infested.
A second herbal remedy that has been found to be effective for treating worms in dogs is Eugenia Caryophyllata or cloves, something that you may even have around the house for cooking purposes. Cloves possess strong agents capable of detoxifying your dog of worms, and they are also a strong anti-parasitic. |
