I just adopted an italian greyhound mix this past weekend with my boyfriend. He's 20 lbs. and 1 1/2 years old. The fosters gave us enough dog food to last us a week and so in the meantime we're trying to find the best dog food for our boy without breaking the bank.

Right now he's on Nature's Select Wild Alaskan Salmon and Sweet Potato. This costs about $45 per 40 lbs. First, I'm not comfortable with feeding my dog salmon since for sustainability reasons. Second, it seems a little spendy. I'm hoping there is a less expensive alternative.

Right now, I'm looking at Kirkland's Select Lamb, Rice, & Vegetables. It's $24 per 40 lbs. However, it seems to have mixed ratings on a couple of internet sites. What are our best options for keeping our boy healthy?

Natura makes a food called Healthwise that is a very good with moderate carbs, a fairly high caloric density and is reasonably inexpensive. It has 4 sources of good quality omega fatty acids and has no seperated grains. Natura also makes California Natural and Innova. I sell about a pallet a week of this brand(55) bags with little or no returns.
