Default Type of food for a pit

I have a 5 month old pit bull and he is still eating canned dog food. Is this normal? I usually mix 1/2 can of dog food with dry food. He loves it this way. He eats this twice a day. He doesn't want to eat plain dry food. I know that if I only gave him dry food that he would eventually get hungry enough and eat it, but I feel that this is cruel. Is this spoiling him too much?

Also does anyone have any suggestions for a type of dry dog food for him? I would prefer someone's opinion from experience because everywhere I look a different type is suggested.

There's nothing cruel about feeding dry. You just have to find a good quality food that your dog likes. You can be sure that dental disease will progress faster in dogs that are on all canned diets. As far as dry foods go? Hard to go wrong with one like Blue Buffalo or similar product but they are more expensive.

***MOST important for you pup now is that you have him on a growth diet for puppies. Regular old maintenance diets for adult dogs are NOT sufficient for a 5 month old dog.

Solid Gold is a good dog food for big dog breeds. Also look at Natural Balance, Taste Of the Wild, Wellness, California Natural, and EVO.

I don't think you are spoiling your dog as like humans, they also have their eating preferences. Maybe he doesn't like his food dry.

Our dogs do not like to eat eggs, scrambled or sunny side up. I told them a lot of people are going hungry and you don't want to eat eggs??:lol:
