Default Re: The myth of the rich veterinarian

I can only speak from my personal experience here. My vet makes a pretty good buck as well he should!!! He works long hours, six days a week. He will come to your home to euthanize your pet when that terrible time comes. He has the most modern equipment in his office. He employs a wonderful staff and pays them well. My kids Dr. is a wonderfully compassionate man. As far as I'm concerned, he deserves EVERY penny he makes and more!!!

I've seen the facilities of the so called "reasonably priced" veterinarians. One place I visited had an operating room directly behind the reception area. Nothing was sterile. I was appalled!!! As with everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

If you want the best, be prepared to pay more for it. If you wouldn't allow that person to treat you or your human kids, he/she isn't worthy of treating your pets either.

The only rich vets I've seen are those who I made rich! That's why I'm poor. Actually, now that you mention it, other than the large chains, all the vets I've used - all females by the way - have been small businesses with no more than eight total employees including one or two vets. It's a tough job.

I always love how people think vets are all making over $100K. It's a riot when people find out that's what I'm in school for. For some reason, they think every student graduating from vet school starts out in 6 figures????

They're correct, sort of. I'll have about $116K in debt. How's that for 6 figures?
