now my dog is very stuffy, gassy, restless
hello, i have posted a few threads on here, my last one we thought my dog "hunter" might have addisons, well the test came back the next day and was neg, so he didnt have addisons. We talk to another vet that just got out of school and he said those test are right only 80% of the time, so were still not sure what to do.
Now lately Hunter has been getting a little better, this past sunday he went to his food bowl and ate by himself, now we have been getting some food down, but not as much as he should be eating. Sometimes hes like normal wants to play and runs around. And other times he just lays around.
Within the past week he has had a very stuffy nose, we were pulling black looking stuff out with q-tip. So the vet gave use Amoxicillin. He also burbs allot and just noticed he has been very restless. Im ganna call the vet in a few min, but if anyone has any input. Let me know, thanks

black looking stuff coming out of the nose? Sounds like dried blood. This is important if that's what it is.

Without examining your dog it is impossible to determine the exact discharge. I agree with Mr. Vega, dark discharge can be dried blood. There are several things that cause this discharges. I would advice you to take your dog to vet to determine the cause of these problem and start proper treatment.

I agree, you should bring him to the vet asap. Keep us updated too.

Haven't heard anything lately on how Hunter is doing--Hope he is okay. Did you ever find out what the heck was going on with him--including the stuff (dried blood?) coming from his nose. I know how hard it is sometimes to get an answer---I have been having a few problems trying to get an answer for my dog's coughing----could be a lot of different reasons for it and a person could spend a fortune for all the different tests and still not get an answer! Then he has had an ear infection for months ---even did a culture to see what kind of bacteria (Had 3 dif. types!) so to know what to treat with. Gone through several dif. meds--Still has the problem! My personal thoughts on it all---That da*n last (5th one) rabies shot messed up his immune system 'real good'----Which I'll bet affects most dogs by this time and dog getting older by the 5th shot--like 10-11 yrs old doesn't help any either. I can't fathom having a rabies shot every year --in the states that still have this as their law---It is utterly ridiculous---It is ridiculous for every 3 yrs. as well. My vet even agreed with me (finally) that it may be true.
Sorry, getting carried away again! Just wanted to check and see how your dog is doing?

what is his current diet? Could this be a severe line of reactions from a food allergy? Had you switched his diet as the onset of symptoms?

Lol, are you talking to me or the original poster? I know about food allergies but kind of hard to figure out if that could be part of the problem. I know dogs can become allergic to foods they have been on for years. I feed a raw diet and also some home cooking. I am hoping food allergies are not the problem because he gets a very varied diet and I'd hate to have to mess with all that. Am hoping chicken isn't a problem as it is one of the few meats I can afford---hardly ever any beef, except hamburger--And that isn't cheap anymore either. My Corky is going to be 12 in June so he has been eating like this for a good 10-11 yrs. I still think the immune system is stressed because of way too many rabies shots!
