Default Please help me! dog ate plastic

Hi i'm new here!

I'm from holland so my English might not be perfect.

I have a problem, half an hour ago my dog ( small Münsterländer) ate a piece of plastic. The plastic she ate is used to devide slices of ham, she took it of the table when we werent watching ( which isnt her normal behaviour). The plastic is 7 by 15 cm (2.8 by 6 inch.) and not super flexible.

Do you have any idea what i should do???

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with the breed of dog you're talking about so, I'm just going to tell you what I'd do. First, the plastic your dog ate has no sharp edges so, there is one huge worry off of your mind. I'd phone your vet and explain what happened. He/she will be able to advise you as to whether the situation is problematic or not.

If you are unable to reach your vet, call an emergency clinic and speak to someone there. Chances are that unless your dog is very small, the plastic will make it's way through the system and "get pooped out." I'd be more concerned if the dog is small.

Please let us know what happens!

I LOVE that breed! All the ones I have met have been great dogs... please post a photo when you can.

As for the plastic... dogs can eat some strange things and be ok but it is always best to go to the vet just to be sure everything is alright. If your vet is not open you should call another vet or go to your local emergency animal hospital. Please keep us posted and give us updates on how your dog is feeling.

I agree. Defiantly call your vet or emergency center. The sharp edges on the piece of plastic could perforate her intestines. It's not like a bone, plastic is not very digestible. Call the vet. They may recommend you bring her in. If not, just keeps a close eye on her and look for any abnormal behavior or symptoms. I hope everything turns out ok.
