Lightbulb Underbite

I rescued a very cute puppy and he has an underbite. Looks like a terrier mix (with god only knows what else). Does anyone know which which small breeds commonly have an underbite? Dog will be 25 lbs max when full grown.

First of all, hi and welcome to the forum!

Breeds where the underbite is a common characteristic include Boxers (not a small breed though), English Bull Dogs, Shih-Tzus, and Lhasa Apsos.

Talking

Thank you, I'll look them up. I love learning about the different breeds.

This little dog was rescued from the streets by a wonderful lady in La Mision in Mexico. At this time I am also very needy, so we should be a good couple, right? I am looking forward to walking him on the beach till he drops. My last dog was an unbelievable Aussie who I had to put down last June. It broke my heart, and I am finally ready to have another dog buddy. Sure was an empty year without her, I can tell you.

Glad you're helping out a dog in need! Good for you!

I know, it's hard to loose a pet isn't it? Almost like loosing a part of yourself. Hopefully your new rescue dog will help fill that void. Best of luck to you!

Cool losing a dog

Thanks for answering; yes, it is the hardest thing that I know of. My Aussie was the most beautiful loyal, loving and fun dog that I have had. Their lives are just too short, and I think that is what took me so long to make the decision to get another one.

We rushed to San Diego after looking at another one online, but the write-up about the dog was incorrect. Said the dog was 2, but it was at least 5-8 years old. That happened to me once before; I rescued another Aussie who the foster-parent said was 8, and my vet told me the dog wasn't a day under 14. I kept him, but he died within a year.

Got my shopping list for the puppy, and will be ready to pick him up after he is neutered next week. Way fun! I'm working out to get ready for the walks, I've been a bit of a couch potato lately.

Default Puppy chow

Currently he is eating Nutrimax, so I'll get a small amount of that. It's adult food, so I'll gradually change him over to a puppy chow so that he gets those nutrients. All puppies that I've had have eaten puppy chow for over 2 years, they need the extra protein for their developing bones.

Personally, I would never feed that food. I feel that it's very low quality food and will only result in health problems down the line. Check out this thread where We've discussed proper dog nutrition and quality foods to purchase. Ever consider home cooked food or even raw? Raw is VERY economical.

what dog food is best
