Is my puppy constipated? New puppy owner!
Hi Everyone - New to this board. We just got Sam, a 4 month old Havanese, on Monday. He has been doing really well with his potty training. We took him for a short walk outside yesterday and he went doody (he hasnt had his final shots so we have been training him inside but it was nice so we carried him around until we thought he might go in a spot), it was pretty normal maybe a little soft. That was at about 1 PM Saturday...well he hasnt gone doody since then! He has been eating and drinking and playing as well as peeing on his pads. We also recently moved the location of his pads...he has had no problem peeing on them he just hasnt doodyed and Im kind of concerned. Any advise? He doesn't act constipated or in pain.
Thank you so very much!

Not sure if this would be considered enough time to start worrying---less than 24 hrs? I am searching the net right now. In case you do have a constipation issue with your dog--some things you might want to read:
Dog Constipation - Guide On Constipation In Dogs - Treatment For A Constipated Dog
Causes Of Dog Constipation - What Causes Constipation In Dogs?
What to do if your dog is constipated
Also copied from the net:
Most dogs will be constipated at some time or another in their lives, and it's usually nothing to worry about. Simply put, constipation is an inability to empty the bowels by normal means. If your dog seems to be straining yet cannot pass a stool, or if the stool is exceptionally hard, he's probably constipated. Usually the body can work the problem out by itself, but if the constipation lasts more than a few days, you should consult your veterinarian.

I took him outside to see if he would go and he did! It was a little softer than yesterday's doody. That is now the new dilema! Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
So you say he has loose stool now? What is its consistancy? What food are you feeding him? Have you recently switched him to a new food than whatever he ate b4 you got him? If so, did you transition him into the new food or go to it cold trukey?

He is eating Science Diet. He was on Purina One and I was mixing it for a few days but he would only eat the science diet and leave the Purina so now I only give him the SD. He has also been getting a lot of treats bc he has been doing so well with his training.

Being he is a puppy, which SD are you feeding him? At this stage, the pup needs puppy food so staying away from adult is important.
Most SD foods are designed for specific uses but generally try not to use this as a main stay.
