Default Help!Dog is letharic and drinking lots of water after Kennel cough

Hi everyone.I have a 14 month old lab. He's a very active boy who loves to play.Last week,he was diagnosed with kennel cough and the vet gave him antibiotics and other medication for a week.He had his last shot of medicines two days ago and the coughing has stopped completely. However, the past 5-6 days or so,I've noticed that he's become very lethargic and sleeps all day.I had initially attributed this to the kennel cough and the effect of the medication he was under. Also,he has been drinking lots of water but eating normally.I'm really worried that this might be the tell tale symptoms of diabetes.I'm planning to take him to the vet again this week but I would like to hear your thoughts.

Found this on the net: Complications

Be watchful of your dog developing a raised temperature, lethargy, loss of appetite, eye and nose discharge or coughing up green phlegm as it is sometimes possible that a secondary bacterial infection can lead to pneumonia.

Should have your dog on probiotics: Probiotics for Dogs | Natural Supplements for Dogs (Be right back here--looking up something to paste here!----Sorry, I can't find it!!

You mentioned that your baby got injections. I would bet that these were steroid injections, which is sometimes given for kennel cough. If so, this could explain the lethargy and increase in drinking that you are seeing. I would suggest that you give your vet a call and tell him what's going on with your boy.

Thanks for the replies.I'm guessing it might be the effect of medications too.He had his last shot on Saturday.Yesterday he was a little more active and not drinking as much water as he did on Sunday. Will still give the vet a call.
