Default Bordetella

is Bordetella a necessary vaccine? Are there any risks? Specifically the one they spray in the dogs nostrils?

I am biased as I do not believe in most shots so will leave you this and hope it helps:how often do you need to have your dog take bordetella shots? You can find more by putting: dogs/Bordetella in your browser.

I suppose it depends on your situation--If you plan on boarding your dog then you have to get the shot. One reason my dogs have never been boarded---No shot for my dogs! I sure would not get it every 6 months to a year if it wasn't necessary---poor dogs are bombarded by way too many shots and the worst is that da*n repeated and repeated stinkin' rabies shot the law makes you get! (once or twice is enough)

yay my Ella is due for Rabies in dec.. not a good christmas present for her .. im going to do the 3 year that way she will be ok for a while as far as that. I dont like vaccines.. but at the same time i take my Ella EVERYWHERE!! She is around many other dogs, which also means she is around there poo and everything else. I keep her up to date on the basics: rabies, distemper, and i think theres one more but i cant think of it at the moment.. but theres been several dogs that have had kennel cough and it just makes me nervous. So i was just doing some research and seeing what u guys think.

Some ppl are not responsible pet owners and u never know what there dog has or when the last time they have been to the vet and since Ella's around so many dogs i feel like i need to be extra cautions.

Im going to be starting another round of agility here in September and were trying a new place bc the last place i went to was more an obedience/ beginners agility class... thats all they offer as far as agility. So i found several places around us who offer intermediate level agility and i really like this one place but they require bordetella.

Thanks for your help!! Your always so helpful!

The only time I have ever had mine vaccinated was when they were kenneled as boarding kennels require them. Otherwise I do not see this as a requirement.
Even my vets have never inquired as to whether my dogs have ever been vaccinated for it.

i do not consider bordettella a requirement either, neither does my vet. I'm trying to get information on whether it might be a good idea for my dog bc my Ella is around so many other dogs. Several who i have found out have had kennel cough. Also the place i will be taking my Ella for agility requires it. But, if it is harmful i would find a new place to do agility. Shes had it before and she didnt get sick afterward of anything... but it is required for every 6 months.
