Allergy Problem.
Just wondering if anyone can help, my dog has been going through allergy problems lately with bad skin, she has had bad ears her whole life, needing weekly cleaning. the skin problem is pretty much clear now, she has been to the vets and had medications. and been put on special food for it, but now her ears have developed another problem, black tar stuff, she doesn't scratch them more then a normal dog, hardly even at all, and she doesn;t shake her head a whole lot either. I have kinda ruled out mites, but not entirely just because i know they will make her ears itch, and i have another dog who's ears are just fine. I clean her ears and almost the next day they are bad again, one is worse then the other.
Also, her fur has stained in the area's she was licking when her allergies were bad ( i know their fur does stain over time, but it stained almost over night!) and also the fur around her mouth is stained. I dont know if this would be connected to her ears or not, possible yeast infections? i don't know if that would effect her saliva or not.
Anyways if anyone has any idea, all greatly appreciated. I've spent loads on her at the vet recently, so if i can solve this with out going agian would be great!

I can't answer most of your questions but it does sound like ear mites to me. This would cause a black/brownish crumbly mess in the ear. Does it smell bad? Here is a link for a site on this subject--Be sure to scroll far enough to get the answer: Dogs: ear mites, home remedy for ear mites, itchy ears
If you put words: dogs/ear mites--in your browser, you will see many sites to check out.
Note: If your dog's ears are red/sore from scratching--the alcohol can burn some.
It seems I can remember another remedy using olive oil. See if you can find that using your browser.

Allergy Problem
Hello,
For what you are describing it sounds like a yeast infection. I have been dealing with this situation for years with my dog and just recently found relieve for him. I cook for him! It's easy and economic. My dog is allergic to wheat, soy, etc. I make for him organic brown rice with organic turkey. He loves it, and his allergy is clearing out by the day. I tried to introduce oatmeal, and the allergy came back. So I just leave it at that basic food. I give him dried apples for treats, and yogurt. Yogurt is really good for them because it helps with the yeast infection. I give it to him once a day, sometimes with berries. Hope this helps.

The brown stains you describe from licking is generally caused by yeast infection, the same kind humans get. So wash your hands after petting your dog and before and after going to the restroom. Take your dog to the vet. They will be able to prescribe meds for yeast infections. Also see your own doc to make sure it hasn't spread to you or your family members.

thanks so much everyone for your replies, So far she only has one bad ear, so if its mites i may have cought it soon enough, to fix it with home remedies, i have been looking a lot online, seems that water and vinigar mixture, with the use of olive oil drops, works good for a lot of people, i have everything for it, so i think i'm going to give that a shot.
