Default Am I not feeding my dog enough?

Hi,

I've been feeding my pug the recommended daily amount on the bag based on her weight and she gobbles it up. When she is finished, she licks the bowl. I know she's a dog and dogs love food, but should I be feeding her more? I split her daily feed into two times during the day, and she gets regular exercise. She walks up and down the stairs at our apartment and gets at least three short walks a day. She isn't round like some other pugs I've seen, but she's not so thin you can say she's underweight. We usually get, "I have a pug, but they're fat..." from people on our walks. Would it be okay if I maybe gave her a little more food because of her activity level?

I think you could give her twice as much and she would still lick her bowl - she likes her food.

Are you feeding her according to the directions on the packet? Different foods require different amounts so no one can give you a specific weight or volume of food.

Remember though it is soooo much easier to help an underweight dog to bulk up than it is to slim down an overweight one. I would keep her food level as it is. Be glad you have a dog who likes her food.

On the bag of food, there's a recommended amount. Thanks a lot, I will keep her food level as it it. I was just worried she was going a little bit hungry.

pugs are one of those breeds that are infamous for overeating and getting fat. Keep the food where it's at. If you give him too much food, he'll eventually look like a Weeble.

I was under the impression that your dog is a good weight if you can easily feel the ribs but cannot see them. Easy with a short haired dog, I don't know how it would work with a long haired dog.
