Exclamation Thyroid Disease

I took my dog to the vet today and he said that he thinks my dog has a thyroid problem.

Some things that he said is wrong with him is thinning of the hair, skin infection/problem and irritated/infected eyes. Also excessive weight gain (in one year he gained 10.5lbs) (no change in diet between then and now).

I have never been around a dog that has it, so I am wondering what I suppose to be looking for or expecting from thyroid disease. IF he has thyroid since my doctor wants to wait 3 weeks to c if the meds are going to help and c if the hairs on his back will grow back some more.

I hope this makes sense to you all because it feels like it doesnt.
