Are fleatreats safe and effective for dogs?
Does anyone know anything about fleatreats? Do they work? Are they harmful? Also, what about vitamin B to keep a dog flea-free? I've used Frontline Plus, and for some reason it is not working any more. Also, I would much rather use a natural and safe way to keep Gracie free from fleas and ticks if there's something that would work. I feel so badly for her, she's been crawling with them lately and I don't know why. I was told that once I rid them off of her that I will need to bomb my house to kill off anything that may be there on carpet, furniture, etc. I started her in an 'obedience' class with a good many other dogs about a month ago. could she have picked them up there? THANKS!

I am not a big frontline/advantix fan. My vet has told me that fleas are starting to become immune/resistant and you need to re-treat sooner then a month for the best performance. I myself use the original blue dawn dish soap to bathe my animals. It is non toxic and will not harm the pet however will kill the fleas. Dawn is used to treat wildlife that has been involved in oil spills and such so I thought well what could it hurt right. It works wonderful. I also feed my animals a small clove of raw garlic wrapped in bologna once a month. The garlic seems to repel fleas once it builds up into their systems. I have also found that it will also work on certain worms lol. I am not surprised when after a garlic feeding if I find worms in their stool the following day lol. On pups and kittens I often use baby oil I pour a Little bit in my hand and rub it gently to the skin behind their ears. I also pet any remaining oil across their belly's and then down their back. Please be sure your using just a little bit of oil your pup should not be drenched in oil or feel oily when your finished. Good luck!

Frontline has quit working for us too. I know garlic is supposed to repel fleas, but I need to know how much to give my puppies. My smallest puppy is 110lbs and my largest is 160lbs. How many cloves do they need and how often?

I ordered the flea treats and I'm also going to do the garlic I believe. Do dogs even like garlic? I always thought it wasn't good for them...??? How much ?? Also, is there a safe and effective way to rid my home in case there would be fleas lurking about? I've been thinking about sprays, but is that safe?

Be careful with the garlic--too much is like feeding onions--both are from the same family! I do feed my cocker about a half clove every other day or so in his raw meal--chopped very fine. Some say never feed and some say it is good for them in moderation. I am going to go find what exactly it says about feeding garlic--what too much can cause--(I know but would rather find a good comment on it---Be right back!
Also found info on what to do to get rid of the flea poison that your dog is reacting to in the paragraph just above about the onion/garlic info.---> Permethrin Insecticides--These types of insecticides are commonly used to kill FLEAS. An overdose in a dog can be toxic. Common symptoms and signs include lethargy, drooling, vomiting, muscle tremors and seizures. The first step if you suspect this type of poisoning is to give your dog a LUKEWARM bath. You should NOT use flea shampoo when bathing your dog if you suspect that he has ingested permethrin insecticides!! Use a mild dish soap (Dawn is good) instead. (and of course this is not dishwasher soap!!) DO NOT USE HOT WATER. This can cause the blood vessels in the skin to dilate and cause the flea product to be more easily absorbed. After bathing your pet, call the vet immediately.
Found some more very interesting data on ONIONS----Dogs simply do not have the enzyme needed to digest onions properly. (GARLIC TOO!) When they eat a large amount of onions/garlic, their red blood cells can be impacted. In fact, they can become quite fragile and even begin to break apart. Signs may not be apparent right away but may appear a few days later. DOGS WHO CONSUME LARGE AMOUNTS OF ONION OR GARLIC MAY DEVELOP SEVERE ANEMIA AND DIE WITHOUT TREATMENT!

They would have to eat A LOT of garlic to have an ill effect on your dog. They are in the same family, but ferrets are in the same family as skunks. There are differences between the two.

I have the same question. I know 1 clove a day wouldn't kill my dogs, or your dog, but I don't know what the least amount is that is most effective. We obviously don't want to give them more than they need.
