I'm sick, should I be worried about my dog?
It's gotten cold down here in Texas, my nose is running and I got a headache. I'm congested and despite it all, my little dog is jumping on me and giving me kisses before I can say DOWN!! I'm sneezing a bit and am feeling like I have a cold. I haven't been sick in a long time. Is there any concern I should have regarding my dog? I've heard they can't contract the common cold.

Actually, dogs can contract a cold, but it's nothing to be worried about. My dogs try to lick my face when I'm sick too.

The germs and bacteria that cause colds in humans is different to that of animals. On only very rare occasions will human and animal viruses cross paths and mutate to something that could be contracted by cross species.
Yes our dogs and cats can get flus and colds, but not usually from us.
In saying that apparently (i am not sure if this is 100% certain) dogs can contract the H1N1 virus..........but this is one of the few viral infections that has mutated to affect different speicies.

Thanks you, I think she knows I'm sick. She won't leave me alone, and has been begging for attention since yesterday morning.

Dogs are much like small children. The worse you feel, them more of your attention they want!!!

My dogs make great pillows when I aren't well.

Oh my goodness, that is so true. She wants to play and she just stares at me wagging her tail when I look in her direction, waiting to pounce. It reminds me of my little cousin knocking on the door and playing on the floor of my room loudly while I'm sleeping with the intentions to wake me up, and it seems to only happen when I am very very tired.
