Unhappy freaked out! abnormal bloodwork

I took Black Jack to a new vet for a second opinion yesterday. The xrays on his stomach showed a lot of gas. Big surprise...NOT! Sorry for the sarcasm, just frustrated. :| So, he's been started on a new medication regimen & I'm praying it will give him some relief. If the meds don't work, she suggested opening him up again & I just don't think I can allow that but hopefully it won't come to that. The poor thing has just been through so much & today he's so sore from all the awkward positions during the xrays that he can hardly get around. :-(

They also did bloodwork yesterday & that's the part that has me a bit freaked out. The vet didn't go into much detail so I'm hoping that means she's not that concerned. Two of his levels came back abnormal, one was the white blood cell count but I can't remember what she said the other one was. They weren't too abnormal but they were abnormal, if you know what I mean. So, I asked her what that meant & she said it could mean leukemia. Needless to say, I then wished I hadn't asked & you can just imagine my reaction! The vet started him on an antibiotic with all the other meds & wants to check the two abnormal levels again in a month. I'm praying that it's nothing! She said that sometimes levels can come back abnormal if a dog has an infection or if the blood clotted & that it can even be the machine. But of course all I can think about is the leukemia part! She seems to be leaning toward the possibility that Black Jack has a bacterial infection in his stomach but I'll be totally stressed out until the bloodwork is done again. So, when I'm stressed & don't understand something, I read about it. If any of you have had any experience with canine leukemia or have any info about it, please let me know.

And one last thing, I want to apologize if I seem like I'm rambling in my post. I'm stressed & just can't think straight! It just breaks my heart because he has so many problems & I can't seem to get him any relief.

I'm sorry. I can imagine the waiting is so difficult. I hope that it ends up being nothing as well. I'm clueless on most doggie illnesses but I still wanted to post to wish you & Black Jack luck with his results & that he gets better without the need for more surgery.
