Hi!

I recently adopted a four and half month old cheesie bay retriever. For the first week, he scratched non-stop and developed hot spots because of that, but he stopped after two weeks of medicated bath, and all the hot spots are gone. The second week, he starts to develop reverse sneezing. It's not too bad, he would wake up a few times at night and few times during the day time to sneeze, but that was it. The reverse sneezing got better for about a week or so, and it actually stopped for almost a week.
Yesterday was the fourth week. Last night he sneezed for at least 30 min non-stop. What I mean is that he would sneeze for 10 or so seconds, then stop for perhaps 10 seconds and start all over again. I pinched his nose every time it happened so it would stop immediately, but it would restart again within 10 seconds. I stayed up with him for an hour or so til 4 in the morning until it stopped. Even when it stopped, he seems to have hicc-up like sounds.
The reverse sneezing stopped for an hour and started again but not as severe.

Any idea?
I'm about to go crazy for this poor thing.


P.S. I heard it could possibly be allergies, but I don't think it will be this bad.

I think usually this is not a concern but it does sound like this is a little more serious--Maybe you should take him to a vet to try and figure out why this is happening! Allergies? Something stuck in nostrils, etc? I don't know! It isn't normal for this to be constantly going on.

It does sound like some kind of allergy as it started 1st with all the scratching. Was he scratching before you got him? What kind of food--brand and type? Are you feeding something different than he had before you adopted him? Is it a contact allergy---Something different in his environment than what he is use to---type of grass--something in your home? Flea allergy? ???

At least call your vet!!
