Default Food allergie Trial

Hello everybody,

our dog was prescribed a food allergy trial, with rabbit as protein and yam Carbohydrate Source.

At first she was eating a commercial diet but soon decided not to eat it anymore (she went through her first heat(at first lot of appetite then none))
So she got cooked a home made diet. Which now included carrots and peas, is that a problem? Also she was fed apple as treats, is that ok? Also she was fed yogurt during the trial. Unfortunately I wasn't at the doctor with her (a family member was) so I couldn't ask those questions. Furthermore she was fed an hypoallergenic dry food and a rabbit dry food.

It's been about 5 weeks now and her skin and itching has not become any better, I wonder if apple, yogurt, carrot, peas might have made the trial inconclusive?

Thank you for your time

Hi there - allergies are awful aren't they - poor dog! I would say if the treats were not cleared by the vet before the trial started then yes, the results would be inconclusive. Yoghurt - especially made with cows milk - can cause skin reactions in humans so it is possible that that it has caused problems for your dog as well. I think you need to start again and no matter how appealing she looks - NO TREATS!

I'm sorry your dog hasn't improved. I've recently begun a food trial too. The most common food allergies are found in beef, dairy products, chicken, lamb, fish, chicken, eggs, corn, wheat, and soy.

Ditto-ing what Cig said, you need to start over and stick to rabbit and yam only. You can add a new food slowly in at about 12 weeks. You'll need to add one food at a time & watch for reactions before adding a second food and so on.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
