Default Over-the-counter Anti-Inflammatory for my 15 y/o dog

About a year ago, my 3 year old cousin threw herself ontop of my dog. My dog was in obvious pain but after a while was able to walk. It wasn't perfect but since she was walking I thought nothing of it and figured she'd get better in a couple weeks. Well, she's had good days and bad days. Now (don't hate me), a year later, she's no better. She is perky as ever but puts no real weight on her leg. I took 1 vet who wants to fill her with drugs just to take x-rays. My fear is, she'll never wake up. Another vet gave me anti-inflammatory meds which was only good for 2 weeks. She did feel better and I have to take her back to the vet but I didn't like the vet as she was very mean because I as looking up my old vet's phone number on my iPad. She walks in and says, "can you put that thing down?" No hello, nothing. Anyway, $300.00 bucks later I'm afraid to take her to either vet. Is there a good over the counter anti-inflammatory I can give my little girl?

No expert here--just trying to use common sense. I do wish you would of looked into this when it 1st happened as I am wondering after about a year's time and the dog being a 15+ senior too, whether it is too late to help much. I am wondering what a chiropractic vet could do for your dog (Shelby?). What breed(s) of dog do you have?

The vet who wanted to do x-rays sounds like the 1st route to go. I don't know why there would have to be drugs to take x-rays!? I have had my dogs have x-rays before and no drugs were needed! Maybe you are misinterpreting what the vet wanted to give---like maybe something to make the x-ray show up better (which wouldn't be a drug)--if anything at all given---Mine had nothing given at all!

If you could go to a chiropractic vet to start with---He would prob. want to take x-rays to see what is going on and then would know if an adjustment(s) would help. I am giving you a link here to check out--tells how to find a chiropractic vet in your area for one thing:

To 'bone up' on chiropractor help for dogs--Just put --> dogs chiropractic adjustment or dogs chiropractic help-- in your browser. Hope this gives you some answers.

Keep us up to date with your poor baby!
